spiralbound.net » Mounting ISO Image Files On Solaris

ore and more, software is distributed in the form of a downloadable ISO image. This is handy because you can then burn it to a CD or DVD, but many times you just want to install it without having to make a disk first. Linux makes this fairly easy, but it’s a little trickier with Solaris. You have to use the “lofiadm” command to first create a block device for the image before you can use “mount” to mount it as a filesystem. Here is the commands.

Make the block device with “loviadm”:
lofiadm -a /path/to/your/image.iso /dev/lofi/1

Mount the image as a read-only filesystem:
mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/lofi/1 /mountpoint

Faxing from Windows

Posted by sanjay on 3:01 PM
Faxing in Windows XP

I needed to fax something urgently and called FedEx...For non-local faxes, they charge something like $2.00 for the first page and $1.25 for each subsequent page. I saw $$$ ringing in front of my eyes, so I check and found this excellent article that explains how to configure Fax Services for Windows XP -- Plain, Simple and I think cheaper -- it cost me about 4 mins to send my fax. Even if I'm paying $0.10 a min, that's only $0.40 for 4 pages  and the setup had to be done just once ..(about 15 mins)
